There are a variety of common mouldings:
- Baseboard or Base moulding — used at the junction of an interior wall and floor to protect the wall from impacts.
- Casing —the trim for both sides of a door or window opening.
- Chair rails —a horizontal moulding placed part way up a wall to protect the surface from chairs. Primarily used now for decoration.
- Crown moulding —a wide, sprung moulding that is used at the junction of an interior wall and ceiling.
- Panel moulding —used to frame sections of a wall.
(Note: Beading is another term for a moulding that is used at the junction of an interior wall and ceiling.)
